I rarely get to watch any videos on my tablet(s). Even then, most often the scenario includes me watching YouTube while washing the dishes. It makes dish washing quite enjoyable, especially since I'm using a special brand of washing detergent (that I'm not going to reveal here because I'm not being paid to). However, there may be the odd time when you just need to watch an anime episode while on the bus or under the bed covers. MX Player is perfect for just these circumstances.

MX Player is an Android media player that has adapted its characteristics to be easily used in this environment. One of the first things you'll notice while playing a video is that track position, volume and brightness are easily controlled by swiping vertically or horizontally. It's something that I discovered by mistake, but driven by the natural way of interacting with my tablet, I was surprised to see MX accommodate this behavior.

MX Player can pick up on different video formats including Matroska video. That means it also must support subtitles and multiple audio streams. That is correct. Audio streams can be switched on the fly while subtitles can also be picked up from external sources including the web. MX Player can also search and play streamed videos, provided you know the correct links. In case of difficulties decoding there's an easy switch between hardware and software decoding. What's great is that although rotation is locked during viewing, you can switch orientation whenever you like.

Beyond that, MX Player can be customized to a large degree. There are numerous settings for styling the interface, controls, text and so on.

MX Player is not only compatible with many media formats, but it also treats the interface with the correct kind of care. The main controls are very easy to access and while tracking is not as fast as on a computer, it's good enough not to annoy the viewer.
